Using Left E flat – New oboe method book
When oboists learn their first notes, they are usually taught to use the right side D#/Eb fingering. It makes sense since the first few key signatures they will learn are Bb and Eb major. However, once the student starts to move into other key signatures like Ab or E major they fail to use the alternate left D#/Eb fingering. Most students become comfortable with the right side fingering to the point where it becomes their default option for everything. This can create a lot of issues down the road with technique and it is a nasty habit to break. So, I have created a book that will help students become more proficient in using the alternate left D#/Eb fingering.
This oboe method book is divided up into two sections. The first section contains short exercises and scales in the keys of E and A flat major. The lesson teacher should demonstrate and explain when it is appropriate to use the left D#/ Eb fingering. The second section is made up of 6 duets. The student and teacher should go through each duet so the student can become more comfortable with the alternate fingering.
